A glorious day is fast approaching for dark beer enthusiasts. Victory Brewing Company, in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, will release cases of their most coveted beer on November 23rd. Last year, the brewery decided to do a little experiment, taking their signature Storm King Stout and aging it in bourbon oak barrels from the Jim Beam and Heaven Hills distilleries. The result was a beer so shadowy and mysterious that it was called Dark Intrigue, and the brewery sold every case in 43 minutes.

Dark Intrigue

This time around, with the hopes that Dark Intrigue has already become a cult beer, Victory has been aging enough Storm King Stout in the bourbon barrels to bottle 3,000 cases of Dark Intrigue. If you live in the area and love a good stout, you must try this beer; it will only be available at their retail space and a few selected distributors. If you don't enjoy a stout with the flavors and aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, and spices, with a 9.2% alcohol level, then shame on you.

For more information about getting your grubby hands on a 750 mL corked bottle of the Dark stuff, check out Victory's website. I apologize if you're not on the East Coast, and therefore will not taste this beer. As a consolation, I suggest that those of you on the left coast enter this Beer Wiki giveaway contest to win some prizes at Thirsty Bear in San Francisco (including beer!). Cheers.
